Classic Christmas Movies: Love Actually
|
Airport, never-ending smiles, embrace…
So many people are smiling all the time, embrace each other. On their faces, there are gratitude, happiness and even happy tears—this is the first scene of the movie, Love Actually. “Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrival’s gate at Heathrow airport. General opinion starts to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed. But I don’t see that, seems to me that love is everywhere.” This is the aside of the movie which can be heard as soon as the movie starts.
This movie got introduced to the public in 2003 during the Christmas period. Several seemingly disconnected stories in fact have close connections with each other. Love is full of every story—not only romantic love, but also love among families and relatives. I love this movie since the day when I saw it. It makes people feel warm.

The most unforgettable story in this movie is the man, who falls in love in his friend’s bride. I can still remember that wedding ceremony. Using his camera, he recorded all the scenes where the bride appears. The smiling bride, the charming wedding dress, the happy expressions, all of these look so warm and romantic!
“With any luck by next year, I’ll be going out with one of these girls. But for now, let me say without hope and agenda, just because it’s Christmas (and at Christmas you tell the truth), to me you are perfect and my wasted heart will love you until you look like this. Merry Christmas!” Without any words, only carrying a tape record and paper board on which all he wants to express, he told his beloved girl all his love. The girl gifted him a kiss. “Enough”, he told himself with a satisfying smile. It is enough. It is love!
Every time when I see this scene, tears would fall off my eyes. I am not sad. Perhaps I just was moved by this special kind of love. If you love somebody and you are sure that she/he is happy now, perhaps, all you can do is to say “Merry Christmas”. That’s all, that’s enough.
Christmas is a time when people should tell the truth and express their love. So since Christmas 2011 is around the corner, have you already prepared to show your love?

Ideas for Spending the Christmas Holidays Alone
|
Skip the Pity Invites

If you can’t spend your holiday with your own family or significant other, spending it with someone else’s family usually sucks. I’ve done it a couple of times and have always regretted it. You’ll spend half your time answering questions about where your family is and why you aren’t with them, so it’s not exactly a way to make your forget you aren’t with them. The rest of the time you’ll spend uncomfortably witness other people’s holiday dramarama. Skip it!
Spend the day volunteering with strangers:
Just keep in mind that homeless shelters and other places that need holiday volunteer help tend to look askance at volunteers who only call them once a year. They have regular volunteers who are committed year round and frequently have all the volunteers they need for the holiday itself from their regular pool. So if you want to go that route, call them in September (or call them NOW!) and start volunteering immediately. Don’t wait until the week of Christmas to call. It is too late by then.
Rent some movies and stay at home

My suggestion for fun movie rentals are Christmas-themed action movies. Avoid all the soppy family-themed Christmas movies. Skip It’s a Wonderful Life and the Miracle on 34th Street. They will get you nowhere.
Rent LETHAL WEAPON instead. That one is my personal favorite. You can watch Mel Gibson totally lose it in a Christmas tree lot.
Or rent Die Hard, Die Hard II, or Reindeer Games. Ooh, and don’t forget Strange Days. That one’s good through New Years!

How to choose a unique dress & party theme this Christmas
|
Christmas time is all about partying, wearing new dresses, exchanging gifts, attending church services and being with family and friends. Around this time, a number of parties are organized. So, when it comes down to your party it is very important to choose a unique theme. The idea is to make the party enjoyable for all those who are attending, including kids and adults. Once you have a unique party idea, next you need to find unique dress to wear at the party. Invite all your loved ones to the party and have a great time during Christmas this year.
Christmas Dress

Some Christmas parties have a dress code, while some do not. Where there is no dress code, you have lots of scope to experience with your dress and looks. If you have been waiting to try out a unique Christmas dress, such parties give you ample opportunities. However, there are certain things you have to keep in mind while selecting a Christmas dress. Be sophisticated, charming and your natural joyful self. After this, no matter what dress you wear it will look wonderful on you.
If you are dressing for an office Christmas party, you need to keep certain basics in mind. Keep your dressing simple, but use interesting accessories to make your own statement at the party. Avoid wearing too tight or revealing clothes at the office party. If you are wearing a sit jacket, wear a silk camisole to get that stylish look. With a simple knee length black skirt, wear a beaded cardigan set.
No matter what you are wearing, carry it off with poise. It is the way you carry off the dress, which will make it unique. So, make sure that you select something you are comfortable wearing. Also you must take note of the colors; wearing dresses in holiday color like red, white and green will add a nice touch to the celebrations.
Christmas party theme

It is always nice to celebrate a Christmas party with a theme. There are many themes, which you can choose for a party. The theme must be chosen keeping in mind the age of those who are attending the party. If it is a kid’s party then the theme can be Santa Claus, nativity party, Christmas music party, and coloring party etc. The kids must have lots of fun and enjoy spending time with their friends. Do not forget to invite all of them to the party and send out the invites ahead of time.
Whatever theme you are choosing, be it an adults party of kids party; you must not forget the essence of the celebrations. The spirit of charity must be reflected everywhere. You can ask guests coming to your party to bring small gifts to be given to orphanages. Kids receive many presents at Christmas; ask them to share some of them with the underprivileged. You can bake a cake or roast some turkey and take it to the aid centre in your city. Celebrate the occasion, by partying with the people living there.

How time flies, Christmas is round the corner again! And one of the best parts of Christmas is have the entire family sit down and enjoy a nice Christmas movie together with the iPod’s wide screen. But which movies are the best? To help you get that special feeling, we’ve pulled together a list of the best Christmas movies that you’d love to watch on your new iPod this holiday.
1. Road to Christmas

Claire can’t wait to tie the knot with her handsome multimillionaire fiance. But her plans for a storybook Christmas Eve wedding in Aspen are derailed when a huge storm paralyzes the entire Rocky Mountain region. Forced to hitchhike to reach the aisle, Claire meets widower Wes and his 12-year-old daughter. Though it s hate at first sight for the adults, over the course of their arduous three-day journey, Claire and Wes come to realize that their initial preconceptions about each other are all wrong, and an undeniable attraction develops between them.
2. Recipe for a Perfect Christmas
First-time food critic JJ Jenner is a cute but bookish 24-year-old whose transformation from low-level magazine writer to coveted food columnist faces just one roadblock–her free-spirited, scene-stealing mother, who shows up unannounced for the holidays. Low on energy and patience, and desperate to get some work done, JJ sets her mom up with Alex, a sweet and ambitious young chef, in exchange for reviewing his struggling restaurant. When writer’s block suddenly hits, JJ begins to recognize that her true feelings for Alex may be the problem. As Christmas nears, JJ learns that her mother is just as vulnerable and insecure as she is, and that love and family are worth risking everything for.
3. Disney’s A Christmas Carol

I really love this story and am especially a fan of Robert Zemeckis and his work. I find it hard to believe that some people were turned off by A Christmas Carol, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I found there to be equal amounts of adults and children in the theater when I went to see this film. Couples ranging from late teens to middle age were there and laughing along with the kids.
4. The Original Christmas Classics
Classic Media brings us 7 Christmas specials in one gorgeous package in its “Original Christmas Classics” DVD collection. The headliners of this set are the three greatest Rankin/Bass Christmas TV specials of all-time: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, and Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town! In addition to these, we are treated to “The Little Drummer Boy”, “Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol”, “Cricket on the Hearth”, and “Frosty Returns”. Plus, a CD of holiday music selections is even included as a bonus!
5. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
This is a classic comedy for the holidays. The third installment of the Griswold family saga is a significant improvement over their previous vacation (National Lampoon’s European Vacation). The cast is great. Chevy Chase is, as always, histerical, as is Beverly D’Angelo as his smart-aleck wife. Julia-Louis Dreyfus is great as one of Clark’s stuck-up neighbors, but the funniest role has to be Randy Quaid as Clark’s redneck cousin, Eddie. What we have here is a special edition of this great movie, which will contain audio commentary from both Beverly D’Angelo and Chevy Chase, a “making of” featurette, as well as other stocking stuffers which have yet to be disclosed at this present time.

Have a Blast, Have a Themed Christmas Party Folks!
|
What better way to celebrate Christmas than by throwing a Christmas party. Better yet, throw a themed Christmas party! Not only will your guests have a blast, they will be talking about your party for years! It is easy to have a Christmas party, so spice it up with something memorable and different.
Movie Themed Christmas Party
There are many Christmas movies that have become classics. You can base a whole themed Christmas party on any famous Christmas movie that you like. Some examples would be “The Grinch,” “Nightmare before Christmas,” or “A Christmas Story.” Pick a favorite and start decorating! Study the movie to find out what kind of clothing or costumes you and your guests should wear. Make sure you inform guests of the theme in your Christmas party invitations. Play the music of the movie – you can almost always buy the soundtrack of the movie online or in a music store. Dress up and decorate your home in the style of your favorite Christmas movie, and your guests will have a ball.
Christmas Tree Decorating Party
For a fun Themed Christmas Party idea, put up your Christmas tree, whether it is an artificial one or a real one. String it up with lights, if a real one, and use lots of ornaments, bows, ribbons, and fake snow. This is a great themed Christmas party for a party that involves a lot of children. Give them the decorations and let them have at the tree. They will have a lot of fun, and you will get a uniquely decorated Christmas tree in the process! Make sure to have lots of cookies and hot chocolate on hand for all the hungry people that will be there. When you are done, make sure to take a picture of everyone in front of the tree.
Humorous Christmas Theme
Let your Christmas party be a very merry event and have the place decked out. This is a great party idea for a kid’s Christmas party. The room can look like a circus, with red and green streamers and balloons strewn about. Guests can dress as clowns to make the atmosphere more humorous! Kids and adults alike will have a great time at this themed Christmas party.

The Best Place to Have Your Office Christmas Party
|
One of the biggest decisions you will have to make when hosting an office Christmas party is where to have your annual event. The location is probably one of the most important aspects that will entice your work mates to come, so it has to be easy to get to by everyone, have disabled access (if needed), be a big enough venue – and of course be classy. If you have your heart set on a theme, this may make the decision very easy indeed.

A Day out
An office Christmas party does not necessarily have to be just an evening event. Many office staff are these days opting for the more adventurous and elongated Christmas party, which can be hosted over a day or even weekend. Weekends away in the countryside are becoming popular, as many manor houses now host murder mystery weekends and other such games for office related parties. Furthermore, spas, health and fitness centers, night clubs and bowling alleys are popular venues for Christmas party events, which can host activities that are relaxing or a little more strenuous.
Make a Meal of it
The restaurant these days is not only for couples to snuggle together on Valentine’s day, as many restaurants now offer private hire of the venue or to book large parties. Private hire is most appropriate for bigger office Christmas parties and the main benefit is that there may be an a la carte menu for private hire, which costs less than food off the usual menu. If your Christmas party is a small group, instead book a table.
Hotels and Conference Halls
Both very popular for office Christmas parties as they have plenty of space for all the guests and probably, their families too. It means you can make a real event out of it and invite everyone. Hotels and conference halls also have the facilities to cater for a Christmas party, such as space for dance floors, DJ’s, tables, the bar and the food (buffet or three course meal).Unlike most locations, there are not many restrictions on what you can organize for an office Christmas party. Moreover, they are likely to be close to a good transport link and have rooms available or be close to somewhere to sleep.
The Office
An alternative, if your budget is tight or you don’t have much time to organize is to have the party in a communal space in the office. The advantage is that you can host a lunch time party, rather than a whole party. It not only lessens the cost, but also cuts down the hours you spend organizing a party. Although not lavish, free food will probably entice most of the staff.

Four Family Christmas Activities for a Fun Family Holiday
|
This Christmas many families will be looking for ways to celebrate the holidays on a smaller budget without diminishing the enjoyment of their children. This can be a tricky proposition. However if you do some research and use imaginative thinking, you will be sure to pull it off. Here are some simple but effective ideas for planning low cost holiday activities that your entire family can enjoy.

Christmas Memories and Traditions
Take a few minutes to remember your own childhood and how you spent the Christmas season at home. Do certain memories stand out as special in your mind? These are probably the Christmas traditions your own parents created for the family. Now it’s time to create memorable Christmas traditions in your own home. Make gingerbread houses together. Decorate holiday cookies.
Go caroling with your children
Something else you can do is to go caroling with your children. There is nothing like going out on a brisk winter night with friends, family, and neighbors singing beloved Christmas songs and spreading Christmas cheer. You will help to brighten the mood of people in your neighborhood and do an activity that can become a family tradition and fond memory for your children.
Community Christmas Fun
Traditions are also created when you participate in annual community events. Does your town decorate a Christmas tree every year? Does your neighborhood have a block where all the homes are decorated with hundreds of holiday lights? Drive or walk to local Christmas festivities and make them part of your family traditions every year. Try to walk if the weather permits so you have more time to observe the detailed holiday decorations together.
Walk to the park with your family
Finally enjoy the winter weather by going out to your local park. If you have snow on Christmas day, take advantage of the weather and go have snow fights and sledding races. If the local pond has frozen over and is considered safe to go on you can go skating on your own natural skating rink. To maximize everyone’s comfort you will have to make sure everyone is prepared to play outside. Have everyone wear warm clothing, gloves, and a hat to trap body heat. Prepare some thermoses full of hot cocoa, cider and other warm holiday drinks. This will allow everyone to play as long as they want and make great holiday memories.
Have fun with your family on Christmas Eve with these wholesome games. And don’t forget to take plenty of action snapshots. These are perfect activities to generate wonderful memories of a very special time. Merry Christmas!
